1ACS Hostel provides decent accommodation for all travellers regardless of faith
KUCHING: The newlycompleted 1ACS Hostel is a manifestation of efforts by Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) to provide safe, clean, affordable and comfortable accommodation not only to church members travelling to the city centre, but also all guests including those of other faiths.
The operation, run by the Christian Ecumenical Worship Centre (CEWC) at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here, comprises 22 rooms on the second floor of the building and also the ample parking space.
According to CEWC chairman Peter Wong, the 1ACS Hostel has been in operation since May this year.
The project took about a year to reach completion and it also included upgrading works on facilities at the ecumenical Centre, enabling it to become a handicapfriendly establishment.
“The facilities include elevators that connect all the floors, toilet facilities, accommodation for wheelchair-bound guests, 24-hour CCTV (closed-circuit television) coverage and complimentary WiFi,” he told reporters yesterday.
The per night rates begin at RM60 per standard single room, RM70 per standard double room, RM80 per Superior double room, and RM120 per Family Room (three single beds).
“Every room has its airconditioning and bathroom with hot water shower. The approximate travelling time to and from Kuching International Airport (KIA) is less than 15 minutes. Nearby, there are banks, coffeeshops, a bakery, and also a private specialist hospital.
“We (1ACS Hostel) welcome all guests, regardless of religious background,” said Wong, stressing that the hostel is a nonprofit operation.
The RM2.5 million establishment was designed by a team of consultants – JRC Architect, Jurutera Jasa (Sarawak), Perunding UZL and PUBM Quantity Surveyors; construction tender was awarded to Yung Kong Construction Sdn Bhd with the site handover was conducted on April 1, 2014.
The CEWC – originally built at a cost of more than RM4.5 million – consists of a grand hall with a seating capacity of 5,000, as well as a number of meeting and prayer rooms. It also houses a book store, an office for the Poor of Kuching, and a parking area with 380 lots.
Wong added that the ACS – consisting of the Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Seven Day Adventist, Salvation Army and Borneo Evangelical Mission churches – will hold a blessing ceremony this Monday (Dec 19) at the CECW, scheduled to commence at 7pm.
The half-hour ceremony would be carried out by all the heads of churches in Sarawak, followed by a fellowship on the first floor.
