100 trees for Sibu Jaya township today

SIBU: One hundred trees will be planted in the booming township of Sibu Jaya here today (Dec 18) as part of Sibu Rural District Council’s (SRDC) Local Agenda (LA21) programme.

Speaking during a meeting to finalise everything, organising chair, Councillor Halimah Japar said the programme would begin at 7am with a mass exercise followed by speeches, tree-planting and ending with a luncheon around noon.

Halimah, who is also a resident of Sibu Jaya.

She thanked Sibu Jaya developer Distrepark Sdn Bhd for supporting the event with a donation of 50 trees.

“We are aware that over the last three years the developer has embarked on an aggressive tree planting campaign; they have planted around 3,500 trees so far,” she said, adding that the council was extremely pleased with their effort.

Halimah called on the people to join them for today’s event to be held at Sibu Jaya Square.

“Come for some exercise and get to know the councillor­s serving you,” she said.
