‘Sing Kuching’ at Chinahouse comes to a close

KUCHING: Kuching Internatio­nal Festival of Music and Arts 2016 themed ‘Sing Kuching’ will come to a close at Chinahouse, Old Court House, today.

Organised by the Society of Profession­al Musicians of Kuching, the event is held to answer the call of Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg who is also Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture in developing Kuching into an ‘Arts City’.

The society’s chairperso­n and festival initiator Dr Geraldine Law-Lee urged music enthusiast­s to come together in full force during the event as it has been an amazing month of festival with music and arts activities brought to life at Chinahouse as well as IMH auditorium.

She thanked all who have been involved in making the event a success.

“Kuching has come alive throughout the festival, in which local music enthusiast­s had a chance to witness great concerts, listened to mind opening talks and experience­d incredible workshops by great internatio­nal presenters.

¡°It has also allowed those with talents to come forward and exchange their ideas to improve and hone their skills.”

She added that IMH and the Society of Profession­al Musicain of Kuching would continue to work closely.

She added that individual­s wishing to improve in anyway in terms of music were encouraged to be involved in the society to improve and raise the standards of the local musicians.

She added that those who enrolled as members would be covered medically and protected by lawyers. Apart from providing the required platforms and connection­s it would also enable members to perform at internatio­nal level.

This year, a series of successful concerts ranging from platforms for young children, music youths, contempora­ry workshop by internatio­nal presenters and examiners, drum workshops by world reknowned drum presenters and authors, art exhibition­s, talks for music therapy and mental health for children of special needs, choral workshops and concert evenings by internatio­nal conductors, all sorts of music, dance, language and art courses were successful­ly conducted.

At the closing of ‘Sing Kuching’ everyone can come together to sing led by two top Sarawakian singers.
