Unhappy about unhealthy illegal dumpsites

-

MIRI: Residents in Tudan are up in arms over a few illegal dumping sites near their residential areas.

A local resident who requested anonymity called thesundaypost yesterday to have a look at the site which has become a regular dumping site for irresponsible individuals.

“My family and I have been living near here for several years and that this site is not new but has been here for so long – it has been published in the newspaper several times since last year,” he said when met at the dump site.

He said residents there were puzzled why the local city council had not acted on the irresponsible individuals.

“People come and throw their rubbish here with nobody caught.

“The discards include plastic, boxes, bottles, wooden planks, household items such as chairs, mattresses and cupboards; and construction materials,” he said.

He stressed that the city council must take swift action as the unhygienic dump site posed a health risk to residents in nearby residential Tudan.

“We want the council to monitor the area as we do not want these sites to become breeding grounds of the Aedes mosquitoes,” he said.

He was also worried that the area could become infested with rats and stray dogs looking for food.
