SSC concludes successful school holiday training camp

KUCHING: The four-day school holiday sports camp for football organised by the Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n (SSC) concluded with the participan­ts receiving their certificat­es at the end of a friendly match at Padang C at Petra Jaya on Friday.

Organising chairman of the training camp and SSC official Mitchell Boon said the training camp was a success.

“On the idea of enhancing the interest of students by providing them a high level of coaching as well as utilising the facilities, our first holiday camp is a big success,” she said.

A group of students from ages 9 to 14 with the bulk from Tunku Putra Internatio­nal school and another school took part in the camp which was conducted by qualified coaches.

The camp, which was the first of its kind in Sarawak, was to enhance leadership, discipline, positive self esteem, social interactio­n and teamwork skills, and develop thinking and emotional skills among the participan­ts.

Encouraged by the success of the first holiday camp, Boon said the SSC will follow-up with another camp in the next school break in March and might include more sports like badminton, squash or swimming.

“We have a data collected from the participan­ts and will in the near future organised more camps and call up these participan­ts to continue on a next Level 2 coaching,” she added.

The camp provided meals, training kit, a full coaching programme and certificat­e.
