The Vatel Group had set up the Marco Polo program with the objective of creating an opportunity for its students to have cross-cultural and enriching experiences, both in school and in their personal lives.

Besides strengthening a Vatels student’s job portfolio, the programme also allows them to discover new academic and cultural environments while continuing their Vatel studies.

This cross-cultural human experience is a true part of the curriculum for students, in the framework of the hospitality and tourism management industry with an international outreach.

The term “Marco Polo dates back as far as the year 1254 to a young boy named Marco Polo who was born to a wealthy Venetian merchant family but led a desolate adolescence life.

However, in year 1271, he was afforded an opportunity to travel to China with his father and uncle. Little did he know then, the journey was going to change in life significantly.

Marco Polo went on to grow in stature and power under the administration of Kublai Khan, the Emperor of Yuan Dynasty.

But above and beyond it was his extensive travels across Asia, the witnessing and the experience of many different cultures, custom & traditions, landscapes and the mastering of four different languages that bolstered his life’s success story that went on to inspire many other globetrotter and the well renown Christopher Columbus himself to go out and experience the different facets of the world and become nothing but the best you can be.

Today, annually 7,000 students are enrolled in Vatel schools all over the globe and their academic syllabus that combines theoretical courses and hand-on practice, acquisition of French knowhow, European and Anglo-Saxon managerial experiences, speaking fluent English and a mandatory internship in a foreign country.

Through the Marco Polo programme, Vatel students are given the opportunity to spend their 2nd year of school at another Vatel Campus in any one of the 31 campuses around the world.

The programme’s curriculum is fashioned to equip and uphold Vatel’s hospitality and tourism students with a more serious edge, increased maturity and credibility, applied knowledge, develop sharp soft skills, and job placements that make them an unmatched competition in the hospitality and tourism industry upon graduation.

The programme also provides a platform for them to grow to be their best while discovering a new country with different cultures, mastering new languages while enjoying picturesque landscapes and the lifestyle of different people groups.

A perfectly balanced lifestyle for students who are looking to gain a comprehensive industry relevant knowledge, create their mark in the hospitality and tourism industry and yet enjoy their student life.

For the last 6 decades, the hospitality and tourism industry has been growing and continually diversifying to a point of becoming one of the most imperative and dynamic economic sectors in the world.

It is forecasted that this light will continue to be green for the following few decades in the industry; and as long as there is a need in the industry, there will be ample of job opportunities that will be waiting to be seized.
