18 year-old girl among 6 detained over pub brawl
MIRI: An 18 year- old girl was among six people arrested by police yesterday after a fight at a bistro at North Yu Seng road here last Sunday.
“Five men between 23 and 35 years old and the female suspect were arrested following a disturbance that reportedly happened on Dec 18 ( Sunday) at 1.45am,” said city police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat in a brief statement yesterday.
According to Khoo, all six suspects were apprehended to facilitate police investigation into the case, which falls under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons or missiles during a riot.
A police report on the incident was filed by the bistro’s 53 year- old manager, who was at the premises at the time of the incident on Dec 18.
According to preliminary police investigation, five men armed with wooden sticks barged into the bistro and began attacking customers in the bar area.
“The complainant (the bistro’s manager) tried to break up the incident with the assistance of other customers,” said Khoo, adding that the incident lasted for about 10 minutes.
The initial police investigation also revealed that the incident occurred following a misunderstanding between two female customers in the premises.
“One of the female customers called up her friends to come to the bistro that morning ( Dec 18) which led to the commotion,” said Khoo.
