Centexs graduates are all ‘industry ready’
KUCHING: All Centre of Technical Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) graduates are trained to meet the needs of industries in the state.
Such is the sentiment of the latest batch of graduates who were awarded `Best Student’ in their field of studies.
Among them is Garry Jana, a scaffolding graduate from Padawan here.
The 20-year- old Bidayuh believed what he had learnt during his time at Centexs was relevant for his trade.
“The skills that I learnt are relevant and suitable for my job as a scaffolder.
“I plan to further improve my skills to Level 2 in the scaffolding programme,” he told reporters when met after Centexs’ 2nd convocation ceremony at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
The guest- of-honour was State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.
Garry, who is now working as a scaffolder, added that being academically poor was no longer an excuse not to pursue further knowledge.
“I advise young people to take up technical skills training. Don’t give up even though you didn’t do well academically.
“Don’t waste the opportunity to learn,” he said.
Fellow graduate Dominic Linker Iching, who was named `Best Student’ in Welding 6G, shared that what he learnt provided him with the know-how most suited for his job.
“The skills matched with job requirements, so it was worthwhile to take up the course at Centexs.
“I plan to continue to upgrade my skills so that I will have more growth opportunities in the future,” said the 23-year- old from Tubau, Bintulu, who is now working in Samalaju.
The other `Best Students’ were Abdul Shafiq Ibrahim ( Mechatronics), Zuraida Reduan ( Computer-Aided Design/ Computer-Aided Manufacturing), Muhd Tasnim Haziq Jamalludin ( Welding 3G), Amieza Japot (Tailoring), Farid Asnawi Janari (Wireman) and Nurjasmin Yusof (Hospitality).
They were among the 483 who graduated yesterday.
Centexs was established by the state government through Yayasan Sarawak to train more technical people. It is tasked to train and upskill the young generation to meet the technical needs and requirements of industries—with focus on the trade of oil and gas, construction, manufacturing and mechatronics— and guarantee a career upon the completion of their training.
