Continue to be active and outgoing, pensioners advised

-

MIRI: Pensioners here are encouraged to stay active rather than shy away from society. In this respect, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang observed that many people had a certain misunderstanding about life after retirement.

“Some of them prefer to fully enjoy their retirement by staying at home and refuse to join any social or community activities in their areas. However, this is a negative mindset — one that could prevent you from enjoying a quality life as pensioners, which is ironic because leaving the workforce is supposed to make your lives better and more enriching,” he told reporters at a preChristmas gathering hosted by Sarawak Government Pensioners Association ( PPKS) Miri branch at its premises in Piasau Camp here yesterday.

Additionally, Ahmad Lai called on the pensioners to remain active in their respective communities.

“If you are healthy, stay active; join the activities at your villages. You can also join many big movements such as the PPKS. For retired policemen, they have their own association.

“Being active will help keep your mind and spirit healthy.”

Ahmad Lai also commended PPKS Miri chairman Dennin Fredericks for his leadership in making it one of the most active associations here.

“Keep up the great work. I assure PPKS Miri that although I am the MP for Sibuti, I will also continue (to give) my support for the association.

“Being the Sibuti MP doesn’t mean that I only serve my constituents – if the people in Miri need my help, my service centre is always open for them.”

Later, Ahmad Lai donated a wheelchair to a PPKS Miri member Abdul Rahman Ahmad, witnessed by political secretary to chief minister Sarkawi Suhaili, Miri Malay Association ( PMM) president Radzali Alision and ExPolice Association of Malaysia Miri chairman Han Hipeni.
