Mass blood donation drive delivers 101 pints

-

MIRI: The local community here showed their caring attitude by giving 101 pints at the ‘Miri Community Mass Blood Donation Drive’ yesterday, surpassing the organiser’s target of 80 pints.

The event organising chairman Karambir Singh commended their actions and also appreciated the support given by the working committee.

“Overall, 163 people registered, but only 101 were eligible to donate and the rest were rejected due to some health reasons.

“This is good enough, exceeding our target,” he said yesterday.

The annual life- saving campaign, organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Miri Chapter, was held on Level 3 of Boulevard Shopping Complex here and ran from 9.30pm to 1pm to replenish Miri Hospital Blood Bank.

It was sponsored by Miri Indian Association ( MIA), Miri Tai Poo Association, Tuna Ayam Brand, Liansin Rice Trading Sdn Bhd and Yeo Hiap Seng Trading Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, Karambir said three similar donation drives would be planned for next year, namely the New Year Blood Donation on Jan 21, a Valentine’s Day Blood Donation on Feb 18 and another Miri City Mass Blood Donation on May 21 — all to be held on Level 3, Boulevard Shopping Complex from 9.30am to 1pm.

Individuals who wish to donate at Miri Hospital Blood Bank may do so from 8.30am to noon, and 2.15pm- 4pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and from 8.30am-11am and 2.30pm- 4pm on Fridays.

It is closed on holidays and weekends.
