BRS Anglican mission district holds first Confirmation service
KUCHING: A new Anglican mission dist rict at Bengoh Reset tlement Scheme ( BRS) here held its first Confirmation service last Sunday.
Through the Sacrament of Conf irmation, some 70 new members of the Anglican Church professed their faith in Christ as a community of believers before Assistant Bishop Aries Sumping Jingan, who blessed them with prayers.
The new members also publicly committed themselves to their local chapels and churches as fully active Christians.
They were then welcomed by the Bishop into the worldwide family of Anglican Christians, being commissioned as a body of Christ and Christ’s witness and servant.
Established early this year, the new mission district was named All Saints’ Church BRS.
Following its establishment, four chapels - St Patrick’s Chapel Semadang, St Matthew’s Chapel Karu, St Richard’s Chapel Danu and St Thomas’s Chapel Bengoh that were formerly under St Paul’s Parish Bunuk - were put under the new mission district.
All Saints’ Church BRS was initial ly set up to cater for Anglicans from Kampung Taba Sait, Kampung Pain Bojong, Kampung S emba n Teleg, Kampung Rejoi , who were resettled to BRS following the construction of Bengoh Dam.
In August this year, Revd Joshua Jo from South Korea was posted there to become the priest-in- charge of the mission district.
The bishop described the conf irmat ion service as “a signi f icant date for the new members” given it was the first confirmation ever held in the new mission district.
Before the conf i rmat ion service, Assistant Bishop Aries consecrated the church building and its grounds.
