IIC brings students to visit Masjid Jamek, Kuching Syariah Court
KUCHING: The Islamic Information Centre (IIC) here has been actively promoting the sharing of information and knowledge not only to the Muslims but also to the non-Muslims towards fostering unity and harmony among the diverse communities in Sarawak.
This has been communicated through various channels and approaches such as educational visits to Islamic institutions.
In this respect, the centre conducted two of such visits recently – with the first involving 26 students from St Peter’s College Major Seminary who visited Masjid Jamek at Petra Jaya near here.
The programme, which was run in collaboration with Sarawak State Mosques Welfare Trust Board ( LAKMS), allowed the students to see various roles of a mosque beyond its core function as a place of worship.
“For some of them, it was their very first time entering a mosque. Apart from learning more about the functions of the mosque, they also got to admire the beautiful architecture of the building and its interior designs,” said IIC spokesperson in a statement yesterday.
The second visit to Kuching Syariah Court was conducted in collaboration with the state Syariah Judiciary Department, involving 60 students from the Faculty of Law at SEGi College Sarawak.
“Some A-Level and Diploma in Law students gained so much during this outing in that they got experience first-hand the workings and procedures inside the Syariah Court,” the spokesperson said, adding that the visit was a followup to IIC’s ‘Understanding Shariah Law in Malaysia’ programme, corun with SEGi College Sarawak earlier this year.
The IIC was established in 2008 with two fundamental principles – sharing of information and knowledge; and raising awareness of the universality of Islam and its principles through specific programmes and activities.
