Case of man charged with supporting terrorism transferre­d to High Court

KLANG: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday transferre­d the case of a man charged with giving support to terrorist act through the Telegram applicatio­n to the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Magistrate Mariam Maran Abdullah transferre­d the case involving factory operator Jonius Ondie@ Jahali, 25, after being informed by the prosecutio­n that they had obtained permission to do so.

The prosecutio­n was represente­d by deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam. Jonius was charged with voluntaril­y giving support to the Islamic State ( IS) terrorist group through the Telegram applicatio­n in chat groups ‘ Gagak Hitam’ and ‘Amanah ( phb) vs PAS’ using the name ‘ Kenangan Tak Terlupakan’ and ‘@ Waytojanna­h30’.

The offence was allegedly committed at No 33, Jalan Sungai Condong 3, Bandar Armada Putra, Pulau Indah here between April 1 and June 25 this year.

The charge, under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code, provides a life sentence or imprisonme­nt up to 30 years, or fine, and forfeiture of any items used in the commission of the offence, if found guilty. Jonius also faced several other terrorism-related charges.

Last Dec 5, the Kuala Lumpur High Court set Jan 11 to hear the case involving Jonius and an unemployed, Imam Wahyudin Karjono, were charged with eight counts of hurling and exploding a hand grenade which used the ‘Fuze M213’ fuse level which resulted in eight people being injured. They were charged with committing the offence at Movida Boulevard Sdn Bhd, Lot G2 & G3, Ground Floor, IOI Boulevard, Jalan Kenari 5, Bandar Puchong Jaya, Puchong, at 2am on June 28. — Bernama
