SRI AMAN: Communi ty leaders are required to explain to the people about development programmes being carried out by the government in their areas.

In making this call, Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat said the people should be constantly in the loop to take advantage of any development programme implemented by the government.

“All community leaders, be they Tuai Rumah, Penghulu, Pemanca or Temenggung, must continue to work closely with the government to ensure continuous development in their areas,” said Masir during a ‘Leaders Meet the People’ session at Rumah Mang Ringkai, Bit Ili in Pantu near here yesterday.

MP, said community leaders should also disseminate correct information about the type of development projects in their areas.

“I am also urging community leaders to work closely with the relevant government agencies to eliminate their doubts when relaying information to the people,” he added.

On another note, Masir hoped that community leaders would not turn to the opposition when voicing out their grouses.

“Community leaders are like the ‘middle men’ who act as the eyes and ears of the government.

“So do not get manipulated by the opposition on issues regarding development projects,” he said.

State Immigration Department of f icer Nelson Naga Alam, Councillor Nelson Lai, Councillor Riji Gue and other community leaders were also present at the event.
