Demand on civil servants’ allowances review to be tabled before cabinet tomorrow

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The demand by the Congress of Unions of Employees In the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) on a review of civil servant allowances will be discussed in the cabinet meeting tomorrow.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was of the opinion that the demand was reasonable as the allowances concerned had not been reviewed for 14 years.

“I feel the demands by Cuepacs are reasonable... such as the allowances of civil servants which have not been reviewed for 14 years.

“I will remind the Human Resource Minister (Datuk Richard Riot Jaem) to present both the demands to be discussed in the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday,” he said when opening the 27th Cuepacs Trienniel Congress Convention here yesterday.

Also present were Human Resource Minister Datuk Richard Riot Jaem, his deputy Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib and Cuepacs president Datuk Azih Muda.

In addition, he said the demand by Cuepacs that the government created a National Salary Consultative Council for the public sector would be discussed at the meeting.

“I think the Prime Minister ( Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) will listen to the requests and will fulfill them when the time comes,” he said.

But, the Deputy Prime Minister said demands must be reciprocated, namely, civil servants must show an increase in productivity and performance in service.

He said any demand must also be based on suitability and reasonableness following the current situation.

Earlier, in his welcome speech, Azih submitted several requests to the government to boost the civil service which among others included creating an insurance scheme and maintaining the size of the civil service. — Bernama
