KLUANG: KPJ Healthcare Bhd, in collaboration with Kluang Specialist Hospital Sdn Bhd, is building a private hospital costing RM80 million in Taman Saujana here.

KPJ Healthcare president and Managing Director Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar said the eight-storey KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital is set to be completed in two years’ time and open in early 2019.

“KPJ runs the Kluang Utama Specialist Hospital here since 2008, but it has since reached its maximum capacity.

“So, with the new hospital, we can provide more efficient healthcare services to the residents of Kluang and its surrounding areas,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony of the KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital, here yesterday.

The event was officiated by Deputy Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.

Amiruddin said the 90- bed KPJ Kluang Specialist Hospital would have 20 specialists in various fields, including pediatrics, orthopedics and radiology, and 350 medical support staff.

He said it would be one of seven hospitals, with a total capacity of more than 1,000 beds, being built by KPJ across the country.

Meanwhile, Halimah said the new hospital would not only benefit Kluang residents, but also those in the Mersing and Kota Tinggi districts, who no longer have to seek specialist treatment in Batu Pahat, Johor Bahru or Melaka.

Kluang Specialist Hospital Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Tan Boon Hock said the plan to build the new hospital was mooted in 2014 and he was confident that it could cater to the needs for healthcare services from the community. — Bernama
