Let party leadership choose election candidates — Observer
MIRI: I nterested par t ies wishing to become candidates for the 14th general election should not spread lies and slander the incumbents.
A pol itical observer, Wan Zain Syed Mohdzar, said the tactics used by certain parties to achieve their goals was to spread lies so that they could be picked to become the candidates.
“If they are indeed capable to stand as one the individual must first meet the Barisan Nasional ( BN) leadership together with the incumbent to seek their approval,” he said when met yesterday.
He said there were now people who were slandering and discrediting an elected representative, who is also an incumbent of a certain seat here although he did not name the constituency.
“This is not new. Anyone can issue statements on social media but slandering a person should not be allowed,” he said.
He added that Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang was one of the victims. Words had been spreadi ng a round t hat he would not seek re- election due to hishealth.
However, the incumbent had put an end to the rumours by saying that he would retain the seat for the BN — a Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) stronghold.
Wan Zaion said: “I see this situat ion as a war because the r e a r e tho se who a r e attempting to seize power by back- stabbing.
“PBB members should not lobby for the candidacy. Just let the BN top leadership decide the performance of the incumbents,” he said.
