Bau disaster relief committee all geared up to face any eventuality
BAU: The Bau District Disaster Relief Committee is fully ready to handle any disaster here during the upcoming rainy season.
The ( Bau) t own and it s surrounding areas are wel lknown to be f lood- prone. T he r e f o r e , t he d i s a s t e r rel ief commit tee, together wi th s evera l government agencies, have devised action plans to respond eff icient ly and quickly should disaster strikes.
Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep said the action plan incorporated management of resources and manpower, information documentat ion system and persons responsible for relief and rescue efforts.

Henry said the commit tee had 318 personnel from various agencies ready to handle natural disaster.

Department, Bau Hospital , Health Department, Information Department , Publ ic Works Department, People’s Volunteer Corps, Dist r ic t Educat ion Depar tment , Bau Dis t rict Counci l and Ag riculture Department.
“We are ready and prepared; we are now on ful l throt t le to provide assistance to the f lood victims i n t he event of a f lood,” he told a press conference at Bau Civic Centre, yesterday.
Henry also said a RM20,000grant had been channelled to the di st rict o f f ice for the sole pur po s e o f d i s a s t er management.
“With such allocation, we will be able to provide assistance especial ly food for the f lood victims and the personnel onduty.”
In terms of logistics, the committee has access to four lorries, seven ambulances, 17 four- wheel- drive vehicles ( 4WDs) and van, 24 boats, 143 life jackets, two Fire and Rescue vehicles and one excavator.
The 2 4 boat s have b een dist r ibuted to f lood- prone villages while 14 relief centres, each having the maximum capacity of 250 people, have been identified.
Henry also said the committee had identified 26 f lood- prone villages in the district – among them Tondong, Suba Buan, Siniawan, Buso, Bogang and Segong — and five roads — Jalan Boring/ Bau Serikin, Jalan Kpg Suba Buan, Jalan Taiton, Jalan Jugan Siniawan and Jalan Buso.
Based on records, a total of 1,005 f lood victims from 51 villages were affected by f lood earlier this year.
