Call on mosques across S’wak to set up funds for Rohingya Muslims

-

MIRI: The Miri Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Association Sarawak ( PBMS) has proposed for the management of a l l mosques across the state to set up their respective funds for the Rohingya Muslims.

According to PBMS deputy president Talhah Mansor, one of the ways to do this would be to allocate the money donated by the congregation for the Friday prayer to the funds.

“They can start this Friday. The money collected could then be handed over to Jais ( Islamic Affairs Department) or Jakim ( Malaysian Islamic Development Department) Sarawak, which would present it to the state government.

“In this regard, Masjid Darul Ehsan in Piasau wil l begin this initiative this Friday and we hope other mosques would follow suit,” said Talhah, who is also the chairman of Masjid Darul Ehsan’s orphan welfare bureau, when met at a function here recently.

Apart from mosques, he also encouraged suraus across the state to set up their own funds for the noble cause.

“This is more than just a proposal – it is a way for us Sarawak Muslims to help our Rohingya brothers and sisters who are facing hardship and injustice in their own country of Myanmar.

“We all can do our part to help the Rohingya Muslims,” he appealed.

It is reported that in 1982, the then- Burmese government enacted the ‘Burmese Nationality Law’ that denied the Rohingya citizenship and other basic rights.
