Sarawak Off-Road Fest organisers grateful for support

KUCHING: Sarawak Off-Road Festival organisers thanked all those who supported the event last weekend, especially Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.

The event was jointly organised by FEM Event Management and Staytuned Motorsports Club last weekend from Dec 16 –18 at Tondong bazaar, Bau.

According to the off- road enthusiast trio of Wilfred Sim, Laurence Baraw and Titus Tay from FEM Event Management, a total of 200 off-road vehicles were involved in the event.

“It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, event organised by us (FEM Event Management) this year. For us, it was a huge success, thanks to all who supported the event,” Sim said.

The organisers have released a joint statement to thank Henry for being very supportive of their event throughout 2016.

According to the organisers who spoke to The Borneo Post yesterday, Henry’s support meant that they had a place to organise their event.

Sim noted that Henry has been supportive of off- road activities by encouraging off-road vehicle enthusiasts to organise their activities in his constituency ever since he was elected as assemblyman this year.

“Due to the nature of our activities, it is always hard to find a suitable venue to organise our activities. Luckily, Henry was supportive enough as his constituency which is part of Bau district, has enough space and empty land to accommodate us,” Laurence explained.

Thus, he hoped that Bau district will one day not only become synonymous with off-road vehicle activities but be an iconic off-road event venue as well.

As for Kuching-based Staytuned Motorsports Club, the club is always looking around not only for suitable venues but supportive local authorities as well.

Club secretary Jeffery Liew commented that they could only organise good events if the local authorities are interested in and supportive of their activities.

“Bau district has proven to be very supportive towards motorsport activities throughout the years. I do hope that Bau will become a top motorsport destination which can host many international events in the future,” he said.

During the event’s closing ceremony, Henry said events such as Sarawak Off- Road Festival could benefit Bau district as they could attract many tourists and outsiders to come to Bau and the visitors’ presence could improve the local economy.

Also present during the event was Padawan Municipal Council deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim.
