Cops told to find culprits stealing recreational facilities in Senadin

-

MIRI: Police have been asked to locate the culprits behind the theft of recreational equipment in Desa Indah and Desa Senadin 2 in Senadin.

In expressing his disappointment at the act of vandalism and theft at the two areas, Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the police must get to the root of the matter.

The Assistant Minister of Land and Air Transportation and Safety said the facilities were installed under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

“We’ve set up a soccer field, a basketball court, a badminton/ sepak takraw court and a futsal court illuminated with solar energy. However, cables, batteries and other equipment all vanished.

“This cannot be tolerated, and I urge the police to find the culprits of both the incidents because it is most probably done by the same person(s) targeting government RTP projects,” he said when reviewing the RTP projects yesterday.

He said the cost of constructing the recreational facilities was RM400,000.

Pointing out that Miri was the only place that had recreational facilities powered by solar energy, Lee was very upset that the facilities became a target of destruction and theft by irresponsible persons.

“It is not easy to steal the equipment because it is very heavy, and I believe this thief has the equipment to open and take off the batteries, cables, wind turbine and other items that are here,” he said.

He said the public should appreciate the facilities provided by the government instead of stealing the equipment that were placed there.

“I am very disappointed because we have been trying to apply for funding from the government to implement this project but when the project is done, it is being damaged by irresponsible people.”
