Longest sofa in M’sia now at Cityone mall
KUCHING: The longest sofa in Malaysia which measures 52.5 metres long is now on display at Cityone Megamall until Dec 29.
The sofa, which is recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records, can easily accommodate 130 to 140 adults and is made out of recycled jeans, sewn by members of Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif (PSJK), Pusat Latihan Kraftangan Epal and Seberang Perai prison inmates.

“With a little bit of creative sewing skills, anyone is able to produce their own unique product which can be sold at a high price in the market,” said PSJK chairwoman Fully Chye Goet Lee in a press statement to The Borneo Post yesterday.
According to her, the sofa was made based on the concept of second chance, hence the usage of recycled jeans and the help of prison inmates.
On another note, the usage of recycled items to produce a product, she added, would also double or triple the profit margin due to the fact that recycled items were cheaper compared to new raw material.
“Besides improving a person’s economy, using recycled products would also help to improve the environment,” she added.
PSJK and the training centre take the initiative to hold the exhibition at Cityone Megamall as an encouragement for the people to understand the potential of using recycled items to generate their own income.
The exhibition also includes a ‘ Round House’ area which emphasises on the use of Malaysian batik where more than 100 products made out of batik are put on display to further promote the fabric to a larger audience.
Besides promoting Malaysian batik, the exhibition is also an eyeopener to the public that fabric can also be used to make products such as handbags.
On the sidelines of the exhibition are various stalls selling handmade products for patrons of the mall to get their hands on various products which are custom-made.
