Lee determined to scale Mount Everest in April

-

SEREMBAN: Malaysia’s oldest mountaineer, James Lee Chong Meng is determined to fulfil his dream to conquer the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest in April despite failing in his first attempt this year.

The 68-year- old man said he was now undergoing intensive training by climbing mountains in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

“Among my preparations to maintain stamina are running for 18 kilometres on a daily basis and climbing mountains on every weekend.

“Although I didn’t reach the peak in May, I will not give up and I must continue with my dream until I get it done,” he told Bernama here recently.

Lee also said he wanted to be the oldest man in Malaysia to conquer the Everest.

“I will try my level best to break the Malaysian record as long as I still have the strength and ( I) want to prove that the golden age is not a hindrance for someone to climb the Everest.

“We have to show that we’re still healthy and active doing something without limit when we reach this age,” he said.

On May 19, Lee had to call off his mission which was scheduled to be completed in 70 days, following bad weather.
