Pos Malaysia launches special collection of stamps on Rio Paralympic­s gold medalists

KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad ( Pos Malaysia) yesterday launched a special collection of stamps and philatelic items on the excellent performanc­e of Malaysia’s very own 2016 Rio Paralympic­s gold medalists.

The stamps, priced 95sen per piece, depict the image of the three national athletes who contribute­d to Malaysia’s first ever gold medals in the prestigiou­s sporting event, namely Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi (100m T36), Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli (shot put F20) and Abdul Latif Romly ( long jump T20), with the theme ‘Golden Moments in Paralympic­s Rio 2016’.

Also launched were the First Day Cover with the same theme ( RM0.55), as well as folder priced at RM6.35 each. Stamp and philately enthusiast­s could also get the complete set at RM23.

Pos Malaysia Group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh the collection was launched to honour the paralympia­ns for their contributi­ons to the country.

“They sacrificed their time with their families and faced the many challenges to be the best among the best.

“We, in Pos Malaysia, will always support them and the Malaysian team, hence the use of the cancellati­on mark in the form of the Malaysian Tiger mascot for this stamp series,” he told reporters after the launch of the collection by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin here yesterday.
