Singaporeans fined for voluntarily hurting man
MELAKA: Two Singaporeans were fined RM1,500 each, in default three months’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh here for voluntarily causing hurt on a man.
Magistrate Mohd Firdaus Saleh meted out the fine on Othman Abdul Rashid, 41, and Muhammad Hairul Hamdan, 39, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.
The two Singaporeans were jointly charged with committing the offence on Mohammad Hazim Hassan, 36, at a parking area behind Imperial Heritage Hotel, Taman Melaka Raya here, at 9.30 am last Nov 19.
The charge, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to a year, or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, if found guilty.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Shazreen Nadia Saaban, while the two Singaporeans were unrepresented.
In another court, a single mother with two children, Raihana Anuar, 29, pleaded not guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt on her ex-husband.
Raihana, who is an administrative assistant, was charged with causing hurt on Mohamad Hatta Mohamad, 33, by punching the man on his face, at 9611-L, Taman Datin Fatimah, Bukit Rambai here at 8 pm on May 16 this year.
Magistrate Norina Maludin set Feb 1 for mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Azri Zakaria prosecuted, while Raihana was represented by lawyer Hazri Hanafi. — Bernama
