Two alleged rape suspects arrested

MIRI: Police yesterday arrested two men who allegedly raped an Indonesian woman at a house in Piasau Utara on Monday.

The arrest was made within less than 24 hours at two separate locations.

The first suspect, aged 31, was rounded up at a house in Piasau about 7.30pm Tuesday. The police also seized several items from the house, among others, shirt, a pair of jeans, shoes, handphone, spanner, knife, car keys and two watches.

The second suspect, a 31- civil servant, was picked by the roadside at Jalan Raja here at midnight Tuesday.

They were taken to the central police station to facilitate investigat­ion.

Police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat confirmed the arrest, saying the police were still tracing another suspect still at large.

“The first suspect and the suspect still at large are both unemployed and have criminal records,” he said.

On Monday, an Indonesian woman, 30, lodged a police report at Lutong Police Station claiming she was raped by two unknown men at a house in Piasau Utara.

In the 6am incident, the suspects who introduced themselves as policemen took the woman in their car to a house in Piasau Utara where they took turns to rape her before she was abandoned by the roadside near a shopping mall in Lutong about 2.30pm.
