The Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, has made a public statement that Sarawak will not support the bill. We will support our state leader’s take on this sensitive issue.

MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Telang Usan has full trust in the ability of Baram MP Anyi Ngau in deciding whether to support the Bill to amend the Syariah Courts ( Criminal Jurisdiction) Act.

In a press statement yesterday, branch chief Dennis Ngau, who is also Telang Usan assemblyman, said its members believe Anyi has the wisdom to decide what is best for the community in the constituency.

“The Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has made a public statement that Sarawak will not support the bill.

“We will support our state leader’s take on this sensitive issue,” he said.

Dennis emphasised that there should not be any compulsion for Barisan Nasional ( BN) MPs

to support the amendment of the Act.

“To use the word ‘compulsory’ in this particular issue might not be very nice especially in a plural society like Malaysia,” he said.

He pointed out that Sarawak had always practised religious freedom and that was the reason Sarawakians could live harmoniously with one another.

“I must stress however that under the leadership of our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak everybody is given equal opportunity to give their views and opinion.

“Therefore, non-Muslims should not make their own conclusion on this issue and that we can trust our leaders to make the best decision pertaining to the Syariah Bill for all Malaysians,” he stressed.
