Community leaders told to educate their people on road safety

MARUDI: Community leaders attending a road safety campaign here yesterday were reminded to disseminat­e what they had learnt during the briefing to the people in their respective villages and longhouses.

In her speech, Acting Marudi District Officer Nurlila Ulis suggested that one of the ways to inform the people to be careful on the road was through distributi­on of pamphlets on the do’s and don’ts on the road.

She said they should advise their people to take extra care when driving back to their longhouses or other destinatio­ns this Christmas and observe traffic regulation­s besides ensuring that their vehicles are in road-worthy condition.

The road safety campaign was organised by Road Safety Department (JKJR) in conjunctio­n with Christmas. It was held at Marudi District Office.

Besides community leaders, those attending the campaign included heads of government department­s and councillor­s. Among them were Miri Resident’s representa­tive Masnona Abdul Kadir, SAO Reagan Edwin, Penghulu Randi Bundan and Penghulu Tie King Ung.

Baram police chief DSP Gabriel Risut and traffic police personnel conducted the briefing.

In conjunctio­n with the campaign, JKJR presented new helmets to the first ten motorcycli­sts passing by and pamphlets on road safety to drivers.
