41 special children have whale of a time at Christmas party

KAPIT: A Christmas party was held for 41 special children enrolled at the Communityb­ased Rehabilita­tion Centre here Tuesday morning.

It was held at its centre at Taman Charm Ung Hwa in Jalan Bletih to bring festive cheers to the children.

Its chairperso­n Moonly Tiang said the majority of the children were very active in coming to the centre from Mondays to Thursdays while others chose to stay at home, prompting the staff to make home visit on Fridays.

“At the centre, they learn simple survival skill so that they could look after themselves while the staff teach them simple skills like weaving of Pua Kumbu. Most of them live in and around the town centre.

more children with special needs out there but due to logistics problem they cannot come to the centre.”

Tiang said treating the children to festive parties was a normal occurrence each festive season - Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya and Christmas.

At the party on Tuesday, four associatio­ns chipped in to help the organiser run the activities. They were Kapit Kwang Tung Associatio­n ( RM500), Kapit South Neighbourh­ood Committee ( RM300), Kapit Women Associatio­n ( RM300) and Kapit Lions Club (RM300).

Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Wong Kie Ing, Kapit South Neighbourh­ood Committee chairman Ma Tian Ho, Lions Club Kapit president Ong Hwang Seng, Kwang Tung Associatio­n chairperso­n Lee Kung Chen, PDK Kapit supervisor Ting Bee Eng and Councillor Jenny Yii also came to the function.
