KUCHING: CH Premier Restaurant received the Malaysia Book of Records accreditation as the first- ever robotic restaurant in Malaysia during its official opening yesterday.

Tourism Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the opening of the restaurant will give visitors to Kuching a wider choice of food and help to promote it as a modern city.

“In the past three years, we saw a rising trend in food serving in Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China which is touted as the latest revolution in the service industry.

“Most of the robots are equipped with radio frequency and they can never be wrong with the orders, and most of all they are definitely patient with customers,” said Lee when declaring open the restaurant yesterday.

With Sarawak placing greater emphasis on tourism, Lee urged stakeholders in the service industry to meet expectations and demands, especially from tourists.

“Ticketing, bookings, entrance to parks should take advantage of technologies and do remember the component of Sarawak tourism which is culture, adventure and nature,” he pointed out.

“Go digital and make full use of technology, especially in the service line,” he advised.

Meanwhile, restaurant owner Mao Chun Lin said the decision to use robots in the restaurant was made to present an alternative to conventional method.

“We wanted something different and to incorporate technology in our service,” said Lin.

The steamboat restaurant is open for lunch from 11am to 12.30pm and 5pm to 12am daily.
