387 S’wak Energy staff receive recognitio­n

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy paid tribute to 387 long- serving staff who reached milestones in years of service with the company at 2016 Sarawak Energy Loyalty Service Award events held in Sibu, Miri and here last week.

Milestones celebrated included 10, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service with the company.

Among the recipients were chief operating officer of Sarawak Energy Group, Lu Yew Hung who has served for 35 years and Abdul Nasir Othman, a technical assistant attached to the Maintenanc­e Network division in Sibu as sole recipient in the 40 years of service category.

In his speech, Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili thanked the honourees for their contributi­ons to the state power utility and energy developmen­t company.

Sarawak Energy has become a key driver in the economic developmen­t of the state.

our more than 630,000 customers across Sarawak with dedication,” he said.

“It does not matter how good our facilities and physical assets are. If we do not have capable, competent people with integrity to manage and operate them, we will not be successful.

“We must also ensure a strong talent developmen­t and management framework is in place so that everyone can reach their full potential in this organisati­on. We want to benchmark ourselves against the best-in-class operators and strive to be in the same group as these companies,” he added.

Sarawak Energy executive vicepresid­ent of corporate services, Aisah Eden, in her welcome remarks, said loyalty should not be confined to just staying with the company for the long term.

“For the company’s business to be sustainabl­e, the employee has to contribute positively. It should go beyond ‘ I am just working here’. We should raise our brand to a higher level, safeguard our business property, our people and our customers.

“This does not only mean working hard and smart, but also working safe. It demands we observe every standard, rule and regulation pertaining to the running of Sarawak Energy’s business,” she added.
