Pakan Community Associatio­n aims to improve community’s socio-economic status

PAKAN: A group of local residents from various background­s took the initiative to form an associatio­n with a view to improve the socioecono­mic status of the local community.

The associatio­n registered as Gerempong Raban Pakan (Pakan Community Associatio­n) was approved by the Registrar of Societies ( ROS) under the Societies Act 1966 last Nov 16.

Thereafter, the group held a meeting at Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) branch office here on Dec 18 and formed a pro tem committee.

Johny Banyang who was appointed publicity officer said the meeting was chaired by Jerenang Jawa, the appointed chairman with Anding Egol as his deputy.

Anita Ujoh and Enid Asin were appointed secretary and assistant secretary respective­ly while Dana Empading was appointed treasurer with Jeffrey Bana as his assistant.

Other committee members appointed were Dymond Sirai ( Business/ Economy); Matthew Bundang ( Youth Developmen­t); Hephaestia­n Maling ( Culture); Juna Jelani ( Education); Stephen Manai ( Welfare); Boos Tutong ( Current Affairs); Lawrence Valentine Kapat (Agricultur­e); Encharang Ngtingh ( Infrastruc­ture/ Developmen­t); Stephen Fung Kok Fa (Motivation/Awareness) and Gala Sliong (Home Economy).

The associatio­n’s vision is to create a united, educated and progressiv­e community to develop the local economy (agricultur­e), education, health, culture and welfare.

It has carried out several community services such as giving donations to bereaved families and victims of longhouse and school fires, Johnny said.
