Christmas a time for M’sians to strengthen unity among themselves — Masir
SRI AMAN: Christmas can be the time for Malaysians to show the world what unity amidst diversity is all about.
Deputy Home Minister Masir Kujat said such show of unity would instil confidence in tourists to not only continue visiting the country, but also telling their families and friends about it.
“Those visitors will return to their homeland and tell good stories about Malaysia to their fellow countrymen. This is where we can expect more visitors to come and visit our country,” he said during a pre-Christmas celebration at Rumah Rengkah in Lepong Empeliau here yesterday.
Masir, who is also Sri Aman MP, saw the communitybased bodies such as the village development and safety committee (JKKK) and neighbourhood committee (RTs), as well as other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as being a key factor in realising this objective.
“They can gather members from various races and religions to work together towards achieving a common vision.
“This is why the government wants these organisations to become the agents to deliver and disseminate the information to the people, and also for their leaders to lead by example in showing how beautiful it is to live in a harmonious multicultural society,” he said.
The pre-Christmas gathering was also attended by Sri Aman District Walikota Richard Tawan Sedu, Temenggong Samuel Lawen and Penghulu Bailey Gamang.
