Elderly woman receives timely Christmas gift
KUCHING: An elderly woman from a poor family in Kampung Bijongon Krokong, Bau, received a Christmas gift from good Samaritans recently.
Voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw said the donations, in the form of foodstuff, were handed over to the 80-year-old woman by himself at her house.
The woman, Sinyor Sinyan, is a widow living with her daughter at the village. Her husband passed away a few years ago.
“She has high blood pressure, poor eyesight and is unable to properly walk. The donation will help to ease the family’s burden during this festive season,” Lim said, adding that he was doing this to help anyone who was poor, regardless of religion or race.
“Most of the people who came to me want to give back to the society due to obligations related to faith, and I am doing it for the sake of religion. I would normally look for those who truly deserved to be helped, like the poor and needy members of the society,” he said.
Lim said he could also assist in helping non-Muslim poor families acquire coffins during bereavements.
The coffins are purchased through donations from the caring public. For more information, contact Lim at 082-248153 or 016-8070388.
Meanwhile, those who want to give back to society but want to remain anonymous could also contact him for assistance.
So far, Lim has done more than 600 acts of charity since he started doing social work about 10 years ago.
Among those who recently donated to charity through Lim and wished to be acknowledged are Amanda Chua, Derry Chin, Annie Ling, Connie Yeo, Vivian Yu, Philip Ong, Cecilia Sim, Donna Chan, Crystal Chai, Ah Fen and Phoebe.
