Lo said this when speaking to reporters after he and several Chinese community leaders per formed the eye - dot t ing ceremony for seven lions at Tua Pek Kong Temple in Main Bazaar here yesterday.

He noted it was an annual ritual brought in by early Chinese settlers.

“It reminds us of how the early Chinese settlers first came to Kuching and brought with them cultural practices and traditions from China,” he said.

“The lion dance has now become a part of Sarawak’s culture and even participated by races such as the Bidayuhs, Malays and Indians.”

The lions were from Fu Hok Dragon and Lion Dance Association and Sentosa Lion Dance Association.

Also at the ceremony, Zhong Ho Association of Kuching Sarawak donated white rice, drinks and biscuits to nine nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs).

Amo n g those present were SUPP deputy secretary-generals Tan Joo Phoi and Sih Hua Tong and Zhong Ho Association committee member Ronny Chin.
