KUCHING: Christmas in Sarawak is not limited to just Christians, but is a multiracial occasion as everyone takes the opportunity to visit their Christian friends, said Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong.

Visiting during festive occasions is the norm here, and is a platform to foster better ties amongst people from various races and religious backgrounds.

“I would like to wish all Christians a Merry Christmas and I hope that it brings blessings and happiness in their respective families. To my constituents, I would like to wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017. I will be back in my constituency on Monday to celebrate it in the village,” he said when met at his Christmas Open House on Sunday.

He said that it was the first time he celebrated Christmas in Kuching in the past 10 years as all those years he had celebrated the occasion at his village.

This year’s open house was for his neighbours and friends, and started from 9am until late.

Visitors were greeted by the host and his family members and were treated to a wide selection of food and drinks.

Meanwhile, Rayong declined to comment on political issues as the open house was an occasion to celebrate and be merry.

I would like to wish all Christians a Merry Christmas and I hope that it brings blessings and happiness in their respective families. To my constituents, I would like to wish them a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2017. I will be back in my constituency tomorrow (yesterday) to celebrate it in the village.
