‘Be careful while on the road’
KUCHING: Road users in the Padawan area are reminded not to drive under the influence of alcohol during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the reminder was important so as to avoid being involved in accidents.
“We are constantly reminding the people here on the safety aspect in conjunction with the on-going ‘Ops Selamat’ operation. Two important aspects involving road users are to abide with the existing laws when driving, those who have consumed alcohol are advised to rest and not drive under the influence of alcohol.”
He told reporters this during the first motorbike crime prevention patrol programme organised by Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) at Taman Desa Wira here Monday evening.
Aidil also advised the people to inform the police if they had to go back to their hometown during the festive season and the New Year.
“This will allow us to make regular patrol in their neighbourhoods during their absence,” he said.
He said the crime situation in Padawan was now under control. Various activities had been organised to enhance awareness on crime prevention to reduce the crime rate.
Meanwhile, SCPA chairman Datuk John Lau Pang Heng said the first motorbike crime prevention patrol programme with the police was a good start between the two entities. He said a total of 60 people comprising the police and members of the association participated in the programme.
“We, together with the police on Monday patrolled various areas in Batu Kawa which included Taman Desa Wira, Taman Kung Phin, Kristal Park, Kuching City Mall, Emart Supermarket and Arang Road.”
