Yong: Insufficient fund to run Padawan Municipal Council?
KUCHING: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong disagrees with Padawan Municipal Council ( PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang for saying the council has insufficient fund to operate.
She said Lo had been saying the council had insufficient fund when the area was under the opposition ( DAP) and for its big size, but voiced out similar statement when the area had been downsized after parts were given to Serian and the PMC now under the BN government representatives.
During a press conference at DAP headquarters here yesterday, Yong asked Lo the whereabouts of development funds from Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah, now held by himself and SUPP president and Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian respectively.
She said the lack of fund Lo mentioned was quite shocking because the elected representatives for Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah, which were part of PMC area, were all BN men.
“Lo reportedly said in a Chinese newspaper on Dec 21 of complaining of insufficient fund to run the council. When I read the news I was quite shock ... so I asked Lo to give an explanation and tell the people where all the development funds are that have been allocated to Batu Kitang and Batu Kawah.
“Furthermore, Dr Sim the party ( SUPP) president and Minister for Local Government, also has all the fund for infrastructure development in the area,” she said, adding that Dr Sim as a senator also had fund from the senatorship.
Yong thus hoped that Lo was more competent in addressing problems and the predicament of the people in the area and not give excuses of insufficient fund.
