BR1M not a bribe, says Ahmad Lai
People should be grateful to the government for the continuous aid which has now been increased from RM900 to RM1,200 for households earning below RM3,000.
MIRI: Any assistance given by the government to the people, especially the 1Malaysia People’s Aid ( BR1M), should not be considered as bribe to gain people’s support.
In making this clarification, Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang said BR1M, which was launched a few years ago, is a government initiative to help the people cope with the increasing cost of living.
“People should be grateful to the government for the continuous aid which has now been increased from RM900 to RM1,200 for households earning below RM3,000,” he told The Borneo Post.
He said in Sibuti parliamentary constituency, the number of new applicants had increased by about

1,000 people, which proved that the people needed the assistance to lighten their financial burden.
He also said single persons and families with household income below RM3,000 constituted the highest number of applicants for BR1M in the constituency.
“To the people, especially households earning RM4,000 and below, it’s a long- awaited help because this aid can be used to buy children’s school needs and so on,” he explained.
He anticipated the BR1M disbursement next year to be easier because the money will go directly into recipients’ bank accounts instead of being distributed to them personally as done previously.
