KAPIT: The youth here ought to involve themselves actively in government organised programmes so that they are not left behind in mainstream politics.

In making the call, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat observed that young people make up only a small part of the crowd in government events like the ‘ Leader and the People’ gatherings, saying it showed that they were not keen in government affairs.

“It’s important that youth engage actively in government sponsored activities in order to keep abreast with current affairs like education, socio- economic and socio-political developments in the country.

“They have to learn and acquire leadership quality because they are the leaders of tomorrow.

“Youths should also understand and participate in the various government policies and development programmes to ensure their successful implementation and achieve their objectives,” Jamit stated when officiating at the closing of ‘Youth Development Programme’ at Rumah Osmond Mingan, Nanga Sebabai, Sungai Kapit. The program was organised by Kapit District Council in collaboration with other government agencies.

The assemblyman also said the government emphasised on the development of youth and had set up the Ministry of Youth and Sports to cater to their needs.

“Not only the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the government has also established many other agencies that offer various technical and vocational training to youth so that they can acquire skills necessary for the heavy industries that require sophisticated technology and knowledge,” he emphasised.

On politics, Jamit said the results in the May 7 state election showed that the whole of Kapit was now a BN stronghold.

Thus, he called on the people to continue supporting the government to ensure political unity and so that elected representatives could concentrate on their development plans.

“We’ve the Kapit BN team led by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing at the state while Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional
