Parents happy to receive aid ahead of new school session

KOTA BELUD: Parents here expressed their joy of receiving various assistance such as free school bags, and barber and shoe repair services ahead of the 2017 school session.

Those interviewe­d felt that the assistance provided through the ‘Back to School’ programme organised by Media Prima, Measat and agencies under the Communicat­ions and Multimedia Ministry helped lessen the burden for their children’s school preparatio­ns.

“I’m thrilled on receiving this assistance. This will surely ease my burden.

“If we can get a free bag and haircut, it indeed reduces our expenses,” Fatimah Alimun of Kampung Kotabungan told Bernama.

Fatimah, 31, a housewife with five children, all of them schooling between kindergart­en level and Primary Six, said with the assistance, she would not have to fork out extra money for her children’s school preparatio­ns, and they would be able to start the new year motivated, and full of enthusiasm.

Tony Ibrahim, 32, a lorry driver from Kampung Nanamun, said his wife, two children and he arrived at the Kota Belud District Council premises at 7am to register for the assistance.

“If there are shoes which are damaged, parents can get them mended here. It’s worth it as it reduces my burden,” he said, thanking Communicat­ions and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak for encouragin­g such programmes. — Bernama
