‘Women play vital role in development of cooperative movement’
SEREMBAN: Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Bhd (Angkasa) always placed women as a priority in its development agenda through organising various training and education programmes.
Angkasa president Datuk Abdul Fattah Abdullah said the move was to empower the group so that they can continue to contribute significantly to the development of cooperative movement in Malaysia.
“Throughout this year, Angkasa through its Women unit focused on empowering women’s cooperatives by providing them exposure on business opportunities (that can contribute to) self, family and society development.
“The women empowerment programmes were also aimed at enhancing the productivity of cooperatives as well as producing more members of high calibre to become cooperative leaders and decision makers,” he said when officiating the Empowering Negeri Sembilan Women Cooperator seminar here yesterday.
According to him, until last June, about 246 women cooperatives involving more than 31,000 members had registered with the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia.
“In 2014, Angkasa had trained 2,849 women members. I also call on more women members and women’s cooperatives to participate in courses such as the Asuhan Permata course organised by Angkasa,” he said. — Bernama
