KUALA TERENGGANU: The schooling aid of RM100 given by the Terengganu government ahead of the opening of the 2017 school session, has indeed bought joy to 1,395 recipients in Manir state constituency here.

Zawiyah Abdullah, 51, said she was indeed grateful for the aid of RM200 she received for her two children as this would enable her to purchase school necessities for the children.

“Since my husband died five years ago, I was worried every time ahead of new school session because I have very limited financial resources.

“However, I am very grateful because every year I received help and I hope the state government will continue helping us in the future because many people like myself really need this kind of aid,” said the mother of 11 children who make ends meet by selling homemade kuih.

She was among the recipients of the schooling aid distributed by Manir state constituency coordinating officer Yusof Awang Hitam yesterday.

For doting grandfather Ramli Karim, 66, he could not wait to buy new school uniforms and shoes for his grandchildren using the money received.

“I have four grandchildren, but two live with their parents in Kuala Lumpur, while the other two live with me here because their parents’ income is not sufficient to cover the family expenses in the city.

“Earlier this month, their parents sent me money to buy school supplies for the two children. However, with this money I received today I want to buy them another pair of school uniform each so that they are happy and can go to school and study comfortably,” he said.

For single mother Rokiah Muda, 54, she wanted to use the money to pay school fees and buy reference books for her youngest son, Muhammad Naim Jauhar Sameli, 11.

“Although I do not work, I still receive my late husband’s pension of RM1,700 and my seven older children are already working and helping out with their younger sibling’s school preparations.

“The RM100 aid would ensure my son would go to school with happy mind with new bag, uniform and shoes, just like his friends,” she said. — Bernama
