Police personnel and members of Sarawak Community Policing Associatio­n (SCPA) all prepared for the first motorbike crime prevention patrol at Taman Desa Wira in Kuching. The programme on Monday night involved 60 volunteers from the force and SCPA. They made rounds at the areas around Jalan Batu Kawah, covering Taman Desa Wira, Taman Kung Phin, Kristal Park, Kuching City Mall, Emart Supermarke­t Batu Kawah and Arang Road.

KUCHING: Two local youths were arrested during a crime prevention operation run by the district police headquarte­rs early yesterday.

The youths – both aged 18 – were detained in connection with a motorcycle theft case.

According to Kuching police chief Abang Ahmad Abang Julai, a report was lodged at Gita station early this year on a missing motorcycle.

“The youths are detained to help in the investigat­ion under Section 379A of the Penal Code,” he said.

Meanwhile, police issued a total of 12 summonses to motorists for various road offences during the operation, which ran from 1am to 6am.

Abang Ahmad said a total of 151 cars, 79 motorcycle­s and 10 vans were checked at road blocks set up at different locations across the city.

“Our team for the operation comprised nine police officers and 45 personnel from various units who were assigned to designated areas across Kuching City including Jalan Astana and Jalan Sultan Tengah.
