BINTULU: The three- day Muslim Youth Camp 2016 at the Islamic Centre of Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus ( UPMKB) recently gathered 159 Muslim students from a number of secondary schools here.

Project director Latip Upit said the main objective of the programme – run by the Islamic Welfare Trust Board of Bintulu ( Lakib), UPMKB and Hikmah Bintulu – was to build a future generation of Muslims who would be capable of planning their direction, as well as identifying their own potential and responsibilities.

“The students were given the basic awareness of and understanding about Islam and its teachings. We hope that with the help from programmes such as this camp, these youngsters would grow up to become educated young Muslim adults who truly practise all the things as advocated in the Islamic teachings,” he said, thanking Hikmah Bintulu chairman Yusuff Ali, UPMKB dean Dr Zamri Rosli, the facilitators and speakers from Bintulu Islamic Affairs Department for their support throughout the camp.

Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Development Datuk Talib Zulpilip, who is also Lakib chairman, officiated at the opening ceremony.

Throughout the programme, the students underwent a host of activities such as the familiarisation session, learning the way to slaughter animals as prescribed under syariah, religious classes, the ‘ flying fox’ challenge and also cooking lessons.
