Nine Kota Belud rural schools receive transport aid – bicycles too

KOTA BELUD: Nine rural schools in Kota Belud yesterday received transporta­tion aid for their needy students.

The donations comprised six vans, one four-wheel drive vehicle and 200 bicycles which were contribute­d by the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, with the cooperatio­n of the Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera ( Yayasan Peneraju).

The five secondary and four primary schools include the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan ( SMK) Usukan; SMK Arshad; SMK Taun Gusi I; SMK Taun Gusi II; Sekolah Kebangsaan ( SK) Melangkap and SK Lasau Podi which received vans.

Meanwhile, the SMK Narinang was given a four-wheel drive vehicle while the SK Suang Punggor and SK Pandasan received 100 bicycles each.

The donations were handed over by the Chief Executive of Yayasan Peneraju, Raja Azura Raja Mahayuddin to representa­tives of the Parent-Teacher’s Associatio­ns, and school heads at a ceremony held at SMK Usukan, near here.

Speaking to reporters, Raja Azura said the transporta­tion aid to rural schools was the first of such aid given in an effort to help empower children’s education in the area.

She said more than RM1 million had been allocated to provide the vehicles to ensure the students could attend school easily and more comfortabl­y. — Bernama
