BAU: Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep believes more developments will come to Bau District this year.

“The year 2016 was a very meaningful one for Bau, particularly Tasik Biru. It was the beginning of a new era.

“I believe 2017 will be even more meaningful, with greater things coming our way, in terms of physical, mental and spiritual development for Bau,” he said at the Bau Town New Year Countdown on Saturday night.

The first-term assemblyman, who won the seat in last year’s May 7 state election, called on the people in Bau to stay united and work together with him to make Bau more vibrant.

“Let us together step forward into the year 2017 with more optimism. I pray that we have a blessed 2017, as the people of many races in Bau continue to live in harmony and work together to

bring greater prosperity to this district,” he said.

The New Year Countdown that night was the first ever of its kind to be organised for Bau district.

It was in line with Henry’s call for more events to be held in Bau to bring more vibrancy especially to Bau town and to boost the local economy.

It was held at the town’s taxi station area, the same spot where the finale of Bau’s first Chritmas Parade was staged.

Those present included Permanent Secretary to the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, Bau district officer Anielia Siam, Pemanca Daniel Teho, event organising chairman Michael Siten and community leaders.

The night also saw Henry presenting a plaque to De’Weras Band, as special appreciation for their song ‘Joget Tasik Biru’ which has become an iconic song for Bau.

Henry said the song deserved to be played at all official functions in Bau starting this year as it manifested the identity of Bau.

De’Weras Band and Sky Knight were the two bands entertaining the crowd, who packed the venue that night despite an earlier rainfall.

Members of the crowd also had the chance to participate in a lucky draw, of which prizes included hampers, electrical appliances and a bicycle.

The highlight of the event was a 10-minute fireworks display which illuminated the midnight sky in Bau.
