Upgrading of Pusa into district reflects government’s commitment to develop rural areas — Rohani

-

BETONG: The upgrading of Pusa into a District manifests the government’s commitment to channel greater development such as infrastructure, economics and human capital into the rural areas.

Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said that the upgrading of Pusa into a district a year ago was a testament of the government’s commitment to provide more development to the area.

“Within a year the district now has its own square for the purpose of organising various activities and hosts various events,” she said during a New Year countdown in conjunction with the launching of the Pusa Bazaar organised by the district office held at Tandang Sari Square, near here yesterday.

She noted that a bridge was now under construction and soon Pusa would have its very own Waterfront.

Rohani, who is Batang Lupar MP, urged government agencies such as Federal Agriculture and Marketing Authority ( Fama) and the Ministry of Agriculture ( MOA) to enhance the promotion of products produced from the district.

“There are a lot of local products that could be promoted such as ‘ Udang Kering Pusa Best’, ‘Gula Apong Pusa Best’, ‘ Tepung Lemantak Best’ and many more.”

She hoped that the two agencies would take the time to go on the ground and look out for local products that could be established under the brand name of ‘ Pusa Best’.

“This will boost the local economy especially as the products have the potential to be marketed domestically and maybe internationally,” she said.

Pusa District officer Bujang Budin said the district office decided to establish a bazaar to be held at the end of each month throughout the year, to provide opportunity to the local community to market their products.

“We will also opening an ‘ Uptown Pusa Bazaar’ starting this month end in which it will be operating similarly like other uptowns established in major cities in the country,” he said.

During the event, Rohani presented school begs to 230 students of SMK Pusa.

Also present was Beting Maro assemblyman Razali Gapor.
