KUCHING: A motorcyclist died following a road accident in Mongkos, Serian on Tuesday, which saw him being struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The deceased, identified as 41-year- old Julian Anjang, was riding alone around 5.30pm when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed while negotiating a bend along Jalan Bunan.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department acting chief ASP Mathew Manggie said initial investigation indicated the crash caused the victim to be flung into the opposite lane where he was struck by an oncoming car.

“The victim was rushed to a clinic in Bunan following the accident but succumbed shortly after while receiving emergency medical treatment.

“His body was then sent to the Serian Hospital for a post-mortem,” Mathew said when contacted over the incident yesterday.

Meanwhile in Lundu, an elderly woman was killed while three others were slightly injured after the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a pickup truck yesterday.

The 2.15pm incident saw firemen from the Lundu fire station despatched to the scene to help extricate Pajihah’s 67-year- old brother, who was pinned to the front passenger seat of the car following the collision.

Traffic police personnel were on hand to investigate the fatal collision, while an ambulance transported the injured to the Lundu Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

Both incidents are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
