Cuepacs hopes govt keep promise to assist civil servants

-

MIRI: Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak is confident that the government at the federal and state levels will continue to be strong and stable in its leadership.

Its secretary Omar Bahrein Unin said with the strength and stability, he hoped the government would keep its promises to look into the welfare of the civil servants.

“We really hope that the government will help the civil servants especially those in B40 and M40 groups. Their welfare should be looked into, to help them overcome the many challenges and obstacles of 2017, as promised by the government in Budget 2017,” he said in a New Year message yesterday.

The B40 group refers to the bottom 40 per cent households with monthly income of RM3,900 and below, while the M40 group includes singles as well as working married couples, highly educated and skilled labour force.

At the same time, he praised those who supported Cuepacs’ struggle to improve the lives of civil servants. Among issues the government should look into, he added, were the rising cost of living and rising prices of goods.

Omar also urged the government to intervene in pricing of houses as well as to improve the scheme of service for government employees.

“Apart from that, the Public Sector Pay Review which replaced SBPA ( New Public Service Remuneration Scheme) has not seen any solution.

“They also need to carry out reviews on allowances or services which have long been untouched, particularly for Sabah and Sarawak,” he pointed out.

He also suggested for the government to establish a wage consultative council for the public sector, eliminate privatisation policy as well as create a channel for civil servants to acquire better grade according to their qualifications and experiences.

“I pray that our national leaders will continue to be given the power by God to continuously bear the fate of Malaysians, and our fate as government servants.

“Hopefully the national economy will continue to grow strongly in 2017 and the country will continue to prosper as well as gain lasting stability.

“I also take this opportunity to wish Malaysians a happy new year 2017, especially to all leaders as well as members of Public and Civil Services Employees Unions affiliated with Cuepacs throughout Malaysia,” he said.
